The TLV431ALPRA is a 3-Terminal, Adjustable Voltage Reference based on a low supply voltage reference operating voltage of 1.25V to 30V. Typical applications of the TLV431ALPRA include, but are not limited to, voltage references, calibrators, gain and offset trimming, low supply precision current and light sensing applications, and general purpose temperature coefficient bias reference. It can be used in many tests and measurements, where the periodic replacement of a trimpot is required and it can be used in any and all conditions where precision accuracy over a wide range of temperature and voltage operating conditions is required.Its temperature coefficient performance ensures that the results obtained from a test or measurement remain consistent, even over long-term use. The combination of an adjustable reference current source and a precision output voltage with a maximum initial tolerance of ±0.5% makes it an ideal solution for low power applications, such as those found in consumer electronics, industrial, automotive and medical applications.Working Principle
The TLV431ALPRA operates by utilizing an adjustable reference current source and a precision output voltage. A voltage divider constructed from two adjustable resistors creates a Voltage Drop which is converted to a current which is proportional to the output voltage. The current is then passed through a precision bandgap reference and fed back to the input of the voltage divider. The voltage divider will then adjust itself to maintain the current flow through the reference circuit.The TLV431ALPRA features an input voltage range of 1.25V to 30V and its output is adjustable by utilizing either an external voltage setting resistor or its on-board trimmer potentiometer. This wide input voltage range makes it suitable for use in many different applications and its adjustable output allows for flexibility in setting the desired output voltage.The TLV431ALPRA also offers excellent line and temperature characteristics as well as a drift performance of less than 0.1% over the industrial temperature range.
