TLV62569DRLR DC DC Switching Regulators Applications and Working Principles

The TLV62569DRLR is a high performance DC-DC switching regulator family from Texas Instruments (TI) designed to reduce power consumption during battery replacement, standby or power-down. The IC series offers a wide range of features to provide efficient, accurate and robust Power Management for many applications.

Applications

The versatile TLV62569DRLR is well suited for a variety of applications including Point-Of-Load(POL) converters, mobile and computer systems, multiplexed data bus, systems control systems and power supplies. They can be used for low to medium voltage, step-down and step-up applications. Due to the high modulating frequency of 1MHz and its high integration level, the TLV62569DRLR series is ideal for space-constrained power-supply designs.

The TLV62569DRLR supports multiple topologies such as Buck, Buck-Boost, Sepic and Flyback converters, as well as multiple output configurations including isolated and non-isolated designs. It is also capable of driving up to 15A outputs. The TLV62569DRLR has a wide input voltage range and can support up to 36V. This makes it suitable for applications that must have wide voltage range capability.

The integrated features of the TLV62569DRLR include a high bandwidth current-mode PWM controller, on-chip linear regulation loops, over-temperature protection(OTP) and short circuit protection (SCP). The IC is also designed with a low power sleep mode, digital soft-start and low-voltage dropout voltage for higher efficiency at low input and output voltages. In addition, the device has an adjustable switching frequency that ranges from 250 kHz to 1MHz.

Working Principle

The TLV62569DRLR is a step-down and step-up PWM buck, buck-boost, SEPIC and flyback switching regulator. It operates on a fixed 1MHz frequency which can be adjusted with an external clock source. In shifting the switching frequency between two voltage levels, power loss is minimized and system performance improved.

The TLV62569DRLR includes a low-side high-voltage NMOS power switch and a high-side low-voltage NPN power switch. The low-side switch is responsible for stepping down the input voltage and delivering power to the load. The high-side switch is responsible for reversing the direction of current flow in the circuit during the OFF state.

The TLV62569DRLR utilizes current mode control, where the current through the VM pin is sensed and compared with Internal Current Limit (ICL). The output switching is then controlled by the internal PWM modulator. During steady state operation, the output voltage is regulated by the internal voltage feedback loop to maintain the set voltage level. The feedback voltage is compared with a reference voltage, and the error signal is used to adjust the duty cycle of the output switch.

The Current Foldback protection feature helps to prevent overloading or short circuit. In case of overload or short circuit, the IC will reduce the output current by reducing the duty cycle of the output switch. Over-temperature Protection will be activated in case the device temperature exceeds a predefined value and will reduce the output voltage until the device cools down.

The TLV62569DRLR series is designed for reliable and robust power management performance in a variety of applications. It provides an efficient, accurate, and highly integrated voltage regulation solution that helps reduce power consumption and improves system performance.
