TLVP4200 LED Indication - Discrete Application Field and Working Principle

TLVP4200 LED is a discrete LED indication for automotive applications, used for electronic control systems in vehicles. The principle of operation is based on a light-emitting diode (LED) which produces illumination of a single wavelength in the visible spectrum. To achieve the exact required intensity and color, an array of LEDs can be used. A few common applications of TLVP4200 LED range from turning indicators, passing lamps, brake lamps, to headlamps, parking lights, and fog lights in the automotive field.

An LED consists of two layers of semiconductor materials, one of which is composed of N-type material, and the other is composed of P-type material. An N-type semiconductor has an abundance of electrons whereas a P-type material has a lack of, or a ‘hole’, within its atomic lattice. When these two materials are combined, they form a junction where holes and electrons meet. In this junction, electrons from the N-type material move over and fill the holes from the P-type material. This movement of electrons results in the generation of light within the visible spectrum. This specific combination of two different semiconductor materials is what forms an LED.

The basic operation of the TLVP4200 LED is based on the transfer of energy that takes place between electrons and holes within the junction. For the light to be emitted in the TLVP4200 LED, electrons from the N-type material need to move over to the P-type material and fill up the ‘holes’ created there. However, the electrons require a certain amount of energy to travel across the junction and fill the ‘holes’. This energy is supplied to the electrons in the form of an electric current passing through the TLVP4200 LED. As electrons enter the junction, a tiny amount of energy is released in the form of light.

The TLVP4200 LED is designed in such a way that it will respond to a wide range of input voltages and can be used in both 12V and 24V applications. It has a maximum forward voltage of 1.5V and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The LED comes in various sizes, from small 0.08-inch SMD packages to larger 0.125- and 0.13-inch through-hole packages. Its LED chips are fabricated using a variety of InGaN-based material, allowing for a wide range of available colors, from red and orange to green, blue, and white.

In automotive applications, the TLVP4200 LED is commonly used for LCD backlighting and as a source for running and parking lamps. As for turn-signal indicators, the LED is also used in combination with an oxygen-sensing system. The oxygen-sensing system works by sending a signal to the LED whenever the oxygen level in the air is low. This signal then causes the LED to light up and indicate a decrease in oxygen levels.

In conclusion, the TLVP4200 LED is a distinctly versatile indicator used in a variety of automotive applications. Its capability to respond to a wide range of input voltages, along with its option of being available in various colors and sizes, makes it an ideal choice for automotive lighting. Not only does it have high efficiency and low power consumption, but its robust design also makes it extremely durable and long-lasting.
