Temperature sensing and regulation is a key component of many consumer, industrial and medical processes and products. The purpose of temperature sensing is to detect, measure, control, and regulate the temperature of a process, system, or environment. Temperature sensors come in a variety of shapes and sizes to meet the demands of specific application requirements. The TMP303ADRLT is a high performance, easy to use Solid State temperature sensor with an operating temperature range from -55°C to +150°C.The TMP303ADRLT is a three-terminal temperature sensing device that utilizes a proprietary design to produce a "cold junction compensating" voltage output which is proportional to the temperature at the sensing junction of the device. The cold junction compensation effect compensates for the change of ambient temperature at the cold junction (aluminum package) of the device to give a tighter cold junction compensation accuracy over a wide temperature range. This ensures accurate temperature readings across a variety of environmental conditions.The TMP303ADRLT is a widely used sensor due to its wide temperature range combined with its excellent long-term stability. The full temperature range of the sensor (-55°C to +150°C) ensures that temperature measurements are made without the need for calibration over a wide temperature range.The sensor utilizes an NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor, which is a temperature-sensitive resistor; this type of thermistor exhibits a rapid decrease in resistance with an increase in temperature. The manufacture of this thermistor as a chip, a very small ceramic chip with a metallic layer, provides both accuracy and stability while being extremely reliable and durable.The output of the TMP303ADRLT is based on the Proportional Voltage sensing circuitry. This type of sensing circuitry consists of a single source voltage applied to a resistor network within the sensor. The change in voltage at the two cascaded points of the network is proportional to the temperature of the sensing junction. The two voltages (V1 and V2) are then proportional to the sensing junction temperature with an excellent linearity accuracy over the device\'s temperature range.The working principle of the TMP303ADRLT is based on the Proportional Temperature sensing technique. This type of sensing technique detects the change in resistance to temperature from the internal thermistor, and uses a circuitry that amplifies the voltage signal from the thermistor to detect and measure the temperature changes. The amplified voltage signal from the circuitry is then used to provide an output signal, which is proportional to the sensing junction temperature. This output signal is then fed to an external device for further processing and control (i.e. temperature display and/or control).The TMP303ADRLT\'s design allows it a wide variety of applications, from appliance and industrial temperature control, to process and HVAC systems; it is also suitable for consumer products such as automotive applications and medical devices.
