TVS diodes, also known as Transient Voltage Suppressor, are unique types of diodes used to protect electronic equipment from voltage spikes caused bystatic charges, lightning, etc. The TMPG06-24A-E3/73 is a unidirectional device designed to provide a low clamping voltage when a high transient voltage is applied. The working principle of the TMPG06-24A-E3/73 can be explained using the schematic diagram below. It consists of a MOSFET and PN junction diode connected in parallel between two terminals. The MOSFET is an input element, which conducts current during the normal operation and blocks current during an over voltage transient. The PN junction diode is a clamped rectifying element which conducts current during an over voltage event.

When an over voltage event happens, the voltage across the terminals increases. The increase in voltage causes the voltage across the PN junction diode to become greater than the breakdown voltage. This causes the PN junction diode to conduct, allowing the current to flow through the diode and discharge the voltage spike. As the voltage across the terminals returns to normal, the current flow through the PN junction diode reduces and the MOSFET resumes its conduction.

The TMPG06-24A-E3/73 is used to protect against transients of up to 30V and has a low clamping voltage of 24V. It has a discharge current range of 10mA to 50mA and its maximum operation temperature is +125°C. Furthermore, it is designed to withstand high repetitive surges of up to 1000V and has a maximum peak pulse power of 1560W.
