.The TOP412G is a DC DC switching regulator line of device from TOPSwitch family. These devices are designed for the efficient, low cost and low noise conversion of power from a DC power source to a regulated output voltage, usually 12V. The TOP412G is a monolithic integrated circuit that combines switching and control circuitry, as well as power switch technology. It is made up of a MOSFET power switch, a bias circuit, pulse width modulation control and output protection circuitry, as well as a full protection set including thermal shutdown, overvoltage protection and under voltage lockout. TOP412G can be used in applications from general purpose power control and low noise conversion to automotive loads, memory and general computing applications, hot swap and point-of-load (POL) applications, and other power switching configurations.
The main application field of TOP412G is in current limited and low noise DC/DC switching converters. These converters provide transformerless output isolation, enhanced EMC properties and improved performance: Fast line and load regulation, wide input and output voltage ranges, fixed switching frequency and input current and low outputnoise.
The working principle of TOP412G is quite simple. It utilizes a synchronous rectifier, which eliminates the need for an output transformer. The Output AC voltage is rectified and stored into a large bulk capacitor. This stored energy is then used to power the DC load. In essence, TOP412G works by automatically controlling the ON and OFF times of the MOSFET. When the output voltage is low, the device is switched ON, as indicated by the D1 and D2 in the circuit diagram. When the voltage is high, the device is switched OFF, as indicated by the D3 and D4. This regulating action is controlled by the current-sensed pulse width modulator, which converts an analog input voltage into a PWM signal.
