The TPIC6A595DW is a logic integrated circuit falling into the Logic - Shift Registers category. The TPIC6A595DW is a serial input/parallel output (SIPO) shift register. There are two types of shift registers: an SISO (serial input/serial output) and a PISO (parallel input/serial output). The TPIC6A595DW combines these two to create the SIPO type. It is designed with 8 parallel outputs that can be either used individually or combined to form the serial data out by using the serial data out (SDOUT) pins.The TPIC6A595DW is composed of an 8-stage serially-interconnected shift register, an 8-bit parallel output shift register, two 4-bit latches and various output control logic. The shift register is fully programmable, so the user can choose between having the data move serially left or right and also between having data shift on each clock pulse or not shift. The 8-stage serially-interconnected shift register serves as both the serial output and serial input. The 0th (right-most) stage is where the input data is loaded, and the last (left-most) stage is available for output.The shift register is initialized by the initialization pulse (INIT) that is applied to the left-most register stage. When this pulse is active, all stages are set to the same bit value. This value at the 0th stage can be set to "1" if the preset enable (PE) control is high, or to "0" if it is low. The 1st stage can be operated in two modes: if the clear enable (CLE) is made active, all stages are cleared; and if the set enable (SE) is made active, all stages are set to "1".The data supplied to the 0th stage is then shifted through the register, with the 0th stage serving as data out and the 7th stage as data in. The direction of the shift depends on which control pin is active - a high level on the shift right (SR) or shift left (SL) controls the shift direction. Depending on the state of the shift on clk (SOC) select pin, the data can be shifted on each clock cycle or no data is shifted on the clock cycle. The 4-bit latch contains 2 separate 4-bit D type flip-flop registers, each with their own asynchronous clear and preset enable inputs. The other functions of the TPIC6A595DW include the output enable (OE) which is used to enable or disable the output buffers connected to the register, the data present (DPR) buffer that is used to indicate the state of the output buffers, and the reverse data (REV) logical which outputs inverted data at the serial data (SD) pin.To summarize, the TPIC6A595DW is a high-speed CMOS logic shift register with low power and wide voltage range, suitable for various applications requiring efficient data processing.
