The TPIC9201PWP is a 4-channel, gate-driver dense, monolithicdevice that provides drive and power distribution capability for a variety ofautomotive and other applications. It supports the industry-standard Low-SideSwitching Architecture with the addition of a side-by-side Power Distributionarchitecture, allowing power to be distributed or blocked using a single chip.The TPIC9201PWP is built using an advanced BiCMOS process and has logiclevel compatible inputs, enabling inrush current control and diagnosticfunctionality. It supports a wide range of gate voltages and utilizes anoptimized start-up control measure, enabling a more reliable and safeoperation.
The TPIC9201PWP is designed for a variety of powerdistribution and load driving applications, including automotive applicationssuch as low-side switches for pumps, fans, solenoids, and lighting. It is alsocapable of driving LEDs for LED indicators. Typical automotive applicationsinclude starter solenoids, accessories, and battery-disconnects. Additionally,the TPIC9201PWP is suitable for a number of other applications includingindustrial, motor control, and battery management applications.
The TPIC9201PWP supports a dual architecture design,allowing the device to be used as both a power distribution switch, and aload driver. The low-side N-channel MOSFET driver portion of the TPIC9201PWPoperates in either a single-switch or dual-switch configuration. In singleswitch mode, the chip functions as a low-side MOSFET (Power MOSFET) driverwith built-in Diagnostic Capability, while in dual-switch mode, the chipfunctions as both a power MOSFET driver and a power MOSFET for currentcontrol. The power distribution portion of the TPIC9201PWP contains twobidirectional Open Drain Power Switches, allowing the device to be used as apower distribution switch.
The TPIC9201PWP also provides an Array ofApplications and Diagnostics Diagnostics including PGT (Programmable GateThresholds), PPT (Programmable Pull-Thresholds), PGO (Programmable GateOffsets), and PGT/PPT combinations; Power Loss/Power On reset (PLR/POR), gatedrivers fault and industrial fault diagnostics, integrated in-rush currentlimiting, reverse current reversing control, and many other features. Forprotection, the TPIC9201PWP includes Thermal Shutdown, Over-voltageprotection, Under-voltage protection, and Over-current protection.
In addition to the protection provided by the integrateddiagnostic functions, the TPIC9201PWP also contains a number of otherinnovative features, including Smart-Low-Voltage Quad Power Distribution,Smart Power Distribution routing, Selectable Drive Outputs, Seating detectionand occupancy detection, and Load Balancing & Soft-Start.
