TPS2095DR Application Field and Working Principle

The TPS2095DR is a Power Distribution Switch, Load Driver specifically designed for use in PC microprocessor power supplies. It acts as an electronic on/off switch or amplifier, providing an interface between the processor and the power supply output. TPS2095DR Working Principle

The TPS2095DR provides excellent power management in a low-voltage, low-current system by integrating two fully protected switches and a load driver into one integrated circuit. It monitors the power supply rail for any load problems or inrush current conditions and as soon as a load off or short-circuit condition is detected, it will immediately shut down the output voltage. This allows the microprocessor to remain unaffected while the rail is protected from any high input voltages or overload current conditions.

The top switch is used for main power control, while the bottom switch is used for load control or switching. The switch provides power to the loads by sending a signal sent to the input of the load driver, and when it receives a signal from the processor, it closes the switch to deliver power to the processor. Meanwhile, the load control switch helps to guarantee a safe start-up sequence by holding the switching device closed, and resulting in suppressing the inrush current or voltage peak.

The TPS2095DR provides various protection features, such as over-voltage protection (OVP) to protect the microprocessor from the over-voltage, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) to prevent power supply from turning on unless a certain minimum voltage is applied and over-temperature protection (OTP). It also has a programmable delay time and can be adjusted to respond to various load scenarios.
