TPS2359RHHT is a Hot Swap Controllers, a type of power management integrated circuits (PMIC), developed and marketed by Texas Instruments. TPS2359RHHT hot swap voltage controllers are designed to safely control power supply during addition or removal of circuit card\'s load when the AC/DC power source is could be on and working. This capability allows systems to be safely powered up and down without leaving any circuit or component without power or damaged.

The TPS2359RHHT is a current-mode hot swap controller whose output voltage is adjustable over a range of 12.0 V to 16.8 V, and enables switch management in insertion and removal of double daisy-chain circuits at inputs of 1/2 VCC up to 17.5 V. The device\'s set operating conditions are 1/2 VCC, 10 ms overshoot duration, 2.5 A source current, and 2.5 A sink current.

Working Principle:

The TPS2359RHHT Hot Swap Controllers provides both power supply insertion/removal and over-current protection for its input circuit, as well as temperature and supply over-voltage protection. It follows the normal capacitor-and-diode forward power-feed topology, featuring pre-bias insertion support to minimize load transients.

The power source is enabled by a P-channel MOSFET. The controller has an internal current limit control with a sink current capability of up to 2.5 A and a source current capability of up to 2.5 A. The current limit can be set through an external resistor. By default, current limit is set at 2.5 A.

With primary control, the TPS2359RHHT Hot Swap Controllers provides wide input voltage range with soft-start capability, dynamic voltage scaling (V BUS tracking), and a drop-out regulator mode. In addition, the controller can also detect power failure on the control line for additional control. Flexible diode emulation operation such as “sky shot” (for series blocking) and “ground shot” (for parallel blocking) is also available.

The TPS2359RHHT Hot Swap Controllers also implements slew rate limiting so that the response times of the controller are always fast and efficient when responding to the input voltage changes and current limit operations.

In addition, the controller also implements protection including cycle-by-cycle current limit protection, over-temperature and over-current protection, as well as soft-start and shut-down protection. It also has integrated LED driver for the control of LED indicator.
