Working Principle of TPS23754PWP

The TPS23754PWP is powered by a 5V to 60V input voltage and integrates the power supply, control circuitry and providing additional features for an overall Power Over Ethernet (PoE) system. The TPS23754PWP works in both IEEE 802.3at/af compliant and proprietary pre-standard modes. When the system is in an IEEE 802.3at/af compliant mode, the device supplies power from a 48V PoE source to the powered device, senses the current draw and determines if the powered device is compliant or not. If the powered device is not compliant, it will limit the power to 15 W or less depending on the settings.

When the system is in a pre-standard mode, the TPS23754PWP supplies up to 40W of power to the powered device, senses the current draw, and limits the current as necessary. In addition, the integrated circuit provides line fault protection, protecting the powered device from damage due to voltage drops, as well as over temperature and over current protection. Furthermore, it helps to limit the inrush current to the system.

The TPS23754PWP also supports Cisco pre-standard and HP Auto-MDIX (standard twisted-pair cable) modes of operation. In these modes, the device monitors the cable length, detects and limits the inrush current, and supports hot-swap protection with automatic reset.
