Introduction:TPS60125PWP is a DC/DC synchronous switching regulator that integrates a dual power-supply input range of 0.8V to 4.5V and an adjustable output current up to 2A into a tiny WLCSP package, freeing engineers from having to invest in large size aluminum electrolytic capacitors while maximizing board space. It provides high efficiency, offering excellent performance and extended battery life in an extremely small form factor.Application Field:TPS60125PWP is ideal for applications in the mobile electronics and power management markets such as DSC, DVC, and other handheld devices; portable audio and communication products, such as MP3 players, digital audio players, and telephones; and battery powered applications, such as watches and PDAs.Working Principle:TPS60125PWP uses an internal synchronous rectifier FET to regulate an output voltage. The device behaves as a constant current source when the Sense signal is absent, and as a constant voltage source when the Sense signal is present. Its working principle is based on two operating modes: SI-mode (Synchronous Intermittent Mode): Switching operations can be synchronized with system interrupts. The TPS60125PWP is disabled during the system interrupt. When the system returns from interrupt, the TPS60125PWP resumes low quiescent current operation. DC-mode (Discontinuous Conduction Mode): The TPS60125PWP is always in operation, optimizing loop stability and maximizing efficiency. In this mode, when the output voltage is reaching the regulation voltage, the device enters a low conduction state.Synchronous and Dropping Switching FETs:TPS60125PWP also features an advanced current-mode control system incorporating both a synchronous and a dropping FET. The synchronous FET is used to maintain the output during normal operation. When the voltage exceeds the minimum on time, the dropping FET is turned on, which decreases power loss and improves loop stability by reducing current surges. The device also features adjustable frequency up to 400kHz and adjustable slope compensation.Power-OK and Reset Functions:TPS60125PWP is also equipped with power-OK and reset functions that can significantly extend battery life. The power-OK output pin will turn to low when the output voltage drops below the threshold and provide an early warning for the system so that it can take appropriate action to prevent battery drain.
