The TPS61020DRCR is a synchronous DC-to-DC buck converter designed for space-constrained power management applications. It is perfect for applications that require high efficiency, low noise, and high output current. It features an adjustable output voltage and excellent line regulation. In addition, the TPS61020DRCR has excellent tolerance to line transients and dropouts and is capable of running without an output filter inductor. The TPS61020 is a low quiescent current, integrated non-synchronous buck regulator. It consists of a voltage reference, error amplifier, MOSFET drivers, high side MOSFET and low side MOSFET. It is capable of delivering up to 500 mA output current with low quiescent current of only 0.6uA. The major application fields of the TPS61020DRCR are aerospace and defense, industrial, medical, and automotive. It provides a non-isolated, synchronous DC-to-DC buck converter for space-constrained power management applications. It is designed for high efficiency, low noise, and high output current applications.The working principle of TPS61020DRCR is relatively simple and can be effectively understood with the help of the following diagram. The input voltage is applied to the VIN pin, which is then supplied to the external high side MOSFET through the VB pin. The VS pin is connected to the external low side MOSFET, and the internal voltage reference adjusts the output voltage according to the feedback from the VFB/VS pin. The error amplifier monitors the output voltage and adjusts the voltage at the VREF pin. The output voltage is then adjusted by the internal MOSFET drivers. The TPS61020DRCR offers very high efficiency due to the use of synchronous rectification. With this rectification technique, both the high side and the low side MOSFETs are used due to the inherent same frequency, and the power loss is minimized. Furthermore, the hysteretic operating mode significantly reduces EMI because of the fast frequency transition.
