Working Principle of TPS622312DRYR

The TPS622312DRYR is a synchronous buck controller with a peak current mode control and a built-in fast 180° extended duty cycle. It has an internal loop compensation and soft start. The controller contains a low-side driver and high-side driver to control the synchronous MOSFETs in the device.

The output voltage is fixed at 0.6V and is adjusted by means of the feedback voltage (FB) relative to the voltage of the FB pin. The output voltage is regulated via the error amplifier by comparing the FB voltage and the reference voltage. The higher the feedback voltage level, the lower the output voltage.

An internally generated soft-start ramps up the output voltage from zero to the desired final value linearly. During soft-start, the peak current is limited. When the soft-start ramp ends, the peak current is adjusted to maintain a constant output voltage level. The device is enabled and disabled independently of the voltage regulator; when enabled, the voltage regulator completes soft-start.

In order to regulate the output voltage under varying load conditions, the internal error amplifier can be configured by external resistors to operate with a very wide voltage range. The output voltage line is internally clamped with several diodes which prevent its output voltage from exceeding the input voltage.

The operation of TPS622312DRYR is based on the inherent inductor current sensing technique. The internal error amplifier senses the inductor current and regulates the converters output voltage accordingly. The converter employs a hysteretic control scheme with a preset frequency.

The device features a power-good signal that indicates output voltage within the regulation range. It includes an over-current protection (OCP) mode and an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) mode both with adjustable threshold levels; in addition, the TPS622312DRYR includes thermal shutdown protection.
