TPS61027DRCR is a very efficient tiny single-chip synchronous step-down DC to DC converter designed specifically for battery powered applications. The device combines a synchronous buck controller, MOSFET drivers, and power MOSFETs in a tiny 5mm x 6mm very thin QFN package, and provides an adjustable output voltage of up to 3.3V with up to 3A of output current capability.

The TPS61027DRCR delivers a high level of efficiency in its operating range of 2.5V to 5.5V. The application field includes ultra-small battery-powered systems, especially those powered by single-cell Li-ion batteries.

Functionality Overview

TPS61027DRCR uses sophisticated high frequency synchronous buck topology to provide high power conversion efficiency. It supports an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8 to 3.3V and provides up to 3A of output current for demanding applications. The device features high accuracy voltage regulation, short-circuit and over-temperature protection, and low-dropout regulation. Working Principle

TPS61027DRCR works in all 3 phases: conduction, turn-on, and turn-off. The conduction phase is when the input voltage is applied to the switching device and current flows through the output capacitor and load. The turn-on phase is when the input voltage is applied with a high enough magnitude to turn the transistor on. During the turn-on phase, the current through the load and output capacitor are low, and then slowly rise as the gate voltage increases. The turn-off phase is when the transistor is turned off. At this point, the current through the load and output capacitor drop quickly and the voltage across the output capacitor and load will drop to its set point.

TPS61027DRCR has a built-in minimum on-time and maximum off-time control system which ensures that minimum and maximum pulse widths are maintained over a wide range of input and output voltages. This allows the device to maintain a constant switching frequency over the specified range. The output voltage is set using an external resistor divider connected to the feedback pin.

Protection Circuits
