Working Principle

The TPS61029DRCRG4 is a high efficiency DC-DC step-up converter for use with high current LED drivers. It is a two pin solution for buck-boost conversion which eliminates the need for heavy exteranl compensator networks normally required for the buck-boost converter topology. The device integrates an external 2MHz oscillator, internal current-limiting, and voltage regulation. The TPS61029DRCRG4 operates as a synchronized boost converter with pulsewidth modulation control. The device employs a switched-capacitor converter topology with one high-frequency switch and one low frequency boost switch. The internal oscillator sets the PWM control frequency and the internal error amplifier compares the output voltage to the set point voltage and adjusts the pulsewidth accordingly. The input voltage range is from 1.8V to 5.5V.

In the output stage, the device integrates a high-side synchronous switch and a low-side N-channel MOSFET switch.
