Functionality

How It Works

The TPS61029 is a single-stage DC-DC switching voltage regulator. It utilizes a typical Buck-Boost configuration to produce an output voltage from an input voltage range of 2.7V-5.5V. The device uses MOSFETs as switches and is powered from the input source. During normal operation, the IC’s internal control logic pulse width modulates (PWM) the power MOSFETs to regulate the output voltage. When the oscillator turns on, current is sourced from the input source to the inductor. As the power MOSFET and current continues to increase, the inductor’s polarity reverses which forces the current to the load and output capacitor. As the inductor current eventually reaches a certain level, the oscillator turns off and the current being loaded is then stored in the output capacitor. As the oscillator turns back on, the cycle repeats and the output voltage is regulated.
