TPS61041DRVT is a low-noise, high-efficiency, constant-current mode flyback converter controller designed to drive boost and flyback topologies used in LED backlighting applications. It is a member of Texas Instruments’ Power Management IC (PMIC) family of LED driver devices.

The device integrates a highly efficient current-mode, peak current control architecture, featuring a wide 4V to 20V input voltage range and an adjustable 0.1 A to 1.5 A output current range. This device operates at a moderate switching frequency. Other features include a fixed frequency oscillator, a high voltage fault latch, a low-side N-FET, active loop-control, protection circuitry and full TTL compatible logic which enables it to work with a variety of communication systems.

The controller adjusts peak current accordingly by switching the N-FET’s on/off current. Thanks to the loop gain and active clamp features, the peak current is kept constant, thus achieving better efficiency for the LED backlighting system.

The PFC and LDO of this device offer over-voltage and reverse polarity protection to protect the LED from being damaged due to overvoltage and reverse-polarity inputs. The voltage sense resistors on the both outputs help to monitor input voltage and output current, as well as detect temperature. Furthermore, the device features a programmable soft-start up, as well as a programmable over-current protection (OCP) to protect the LEDs and output circuit.
