TPS61175EVM-588 Evaluation Board is a kind of DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS dedicated to Texas Instruments (TI) TPS61175 3.5V, 15A low- quiescent current (Iq ) step-down converter with built-in frequency jittering. It integrates a high efficiency synchronous current mode step-down DC/DC converter with a wide input voltage range of 4.35 – 17V. With 0.8V typ. or 0.6V adjustable output voltage and up to 15A continuous output current, TPS61175EVM-588 is designed with current-mode control for high transient response, excellent line and load regulation to support various applications such as Telecommunication, Network Switching, Industrial, Automotive and consumer electronics system.

TPS61175EVM-588 Evaluation board comes with a built-in frequency jittering along with pre-biased start-up configuration for improved light-load efficiency during pre-bias or standby operation, enabling the extended battery life for portable applications. Its ultra-low quiescent current (Iq) of 0.2μA provides significant amount of power-saving capability. The internal soft-start and thermal shutdown features extend battery life for various lighting and portable applications. Moreover, TPS61175EVM-588 Evaluation Board comes with efficient cooling techniques to ensure full-load operation with low temperature rise.

In terms of working principle, TPS61175EVM-588 Evaluation Board is powered by an external input voltage and the internal MOSFET switches connected to the input and output means to form a synchronous rectifier (SR) buck converter. In this SR buck converter, the inductor is used to limit the amount of current through the output and store the energy. At the same time, the output voltage is regulated by varying the duty cycle of the SR MOSFETs, which maintains the power-infeed to the load. The voltage feedback regulation of the TPS61175EVM-588 board uses an internal control-loop that compares the output voltage with a voltage reference or preset level provided by the external resistor dividers. The resulting error signal is compared to the signal of an internal oscillator to generate a PWM signal, which then drives the SR MOSFETs. The control loop then regulates the output voltage.
