TPS61310YFFT, a typical LED driver IC, is designed to drive up to 10 high-brightness LEDs, such as 614–620 nm. The device can deliver high peak current of 800 mA (typ) and 120 mA (typ) of LED current in the steady state. Its accurately program the LED current with 1.2V to 5.5V voltage reference and few external components. It offers excellent thermal performance, fast transient response, and low power dissipation.

TPS61310YFFT is tailored for driver applications, without the need of additional external components. Programs up to 10 LEDs in Parallel, it gives hardware designers and application teams flexibility, enhances design times and reduces bill of materials and ultimately keep system balance from power supply rating.

The device have dimming feature provides a very smooth dimming operation and can dim all the programs of LEDs at once. It contains a very low-noise transconductance amplifier generating a very low ripple in the output stage. The ripple and noise injected into the output channel can be minimized with the on-chip supplied voltage low-pass filter.

Its wide range power supply from 1.8V to 5.5V, high accuracy and low power dissipation makes it one of the best suited LED drivers for applications such as portable lighting, photography, advt.indication, automotive interior lighting, instrument cluster lighting, etc.

The TPS61310YFFT work on the principle of pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. PWM method of dimming LEDs is a simple, reliable and cost effective way of dimming. In this approach, LEDs are dimmed by slightly adjusting the duty cycle of the PWM signal according to the desired level of intensity. The PWM signal applied to an LED is a series of pulses, each having a fixed frequency, however varying in Duty Cycle. Duty Cycle is the ratio of ON time to the period of the signal.

The LED driver IC has four programmable LED channels that can be individually dimmed. The chip’s internal charge pump voltage converter also provides additional flexibility in programmable LED dimming. It can accept five dimming control input signals from an external micro-controller, potentiometer, photo-diode and battery monitor. Besides, a fixed frequency current mode PWM dimming is also available.

TPS61310YFFT is designed to operate in a temperature range 0 – 70℃ to meet the harsh automotive environment.It provides over temperature protection and LED open or LED short circuit protection by combining LED current limiting control and LED open or LED short circuit protection. Under LED open or LED short circuit situation, the IC will limit the current to 20mA/LED.

The 20-pin, 0.5mm pitch WDFN package with enhanced temperature performance of 150℃, provides better power supply cost savings, reduced product size and enhanced design flexibility. Its wide input voltage range, current sense feedback and integrated safety features provide a full solution for controlling and managing a host of lighting applications.
