The TPS62090QRGTRQ1 is a 15-V, 2-A buck DC-to-DC switching regulator designed to operate from input voltage sources. Working Principle

The TPS62090QRGTRQ1 is an integrated buck switching regulator. It regulates the output voltage by switching a high-side and a low-side P-channel power MOSFET between on and off states. A reference voltage provides the reference for regulating the output voltage. The error amplifier compares the reference voltage with the feedback voltage (FB pin) to create an error voltage. The error voltage is used to control an internal oscillator. The oscillator starts toggling the gate drivers of the high-side and low-side P-channel power MOSFETs with a control logic that is based on the voltage differences of the high-side and low-side P-channel power MOSFETs. The switching frequency of the TPS62090QRGTRQ1 can range from 400 kHz to 1.9 MHz.

The TPS62090QRGTRQ1 provides over-voltage protection and over-current protection in order to prevent damage to the device. The over-voltage protection is provided by a voltage divider connected to the FB pin. The current-sense resistor provides over-current protection. When the output goes over a set current limit, the output of the power MOSFET driver is blanked to reduce the switching frequency. This causes the current to decrease abruptly and the output voltage to rise significantly until the power MOSFET driver is blanked out again.
