The Texas Instruments TPS62136EVM-698 is an Evaluation Module (EVM) designed by TI for performance evaluation and testing on their TPS6213x series DC/DC and AC/DC Offline SMPS. The TPS6213x series is a high performance step-down converter family of devices which are designed for use in the most demanding off-line flyback and Buck converter end applications. This evaluation module consists of the TPS62136 Buck converter with integrated controller and regulator which operates over an input voltage rage of 4.75V to 36V, providing a fixed output voltage of 1.2V. This converter has an adjustable Switch frequency from 350 kHz to 1.5MHz, and an external Power MOSFET which sweeps a 5A current at a Low ESR output capacitors. The TPS62136EVM-698 is offered with an on board graphical user interface which allows the user to view, adjust and change the various parameters of the device. Furthermore, it supports data logging at a certain frequency and can be used to view the current and voltage waveforms of the device in order to determine the operation and stability of the converter. The TPS62136EVM-698 is also made available with a Windows based software which allows the user to view and adjust the settings of the converter without the need for a graphical user interface. This software also features a simulation feature which simulates the output from the converter and allows the user to determine the performance of the converter over a wide range of load, frequency and input conditions.The TPS62136EVM-698 can be used to evaluate and test the performance of the TPS6213x series. Its main application field includes off-line flyback and buck converter designs to power highly regulated and isolated outputs used in various system level designs. It can also be used for testing and development of various new and existing power designs.The DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS evaluation board from TI consists of the TPS62136 Buck converter and is designed to operate over a wide input voltage range typically 4V to 36V. The TPS62136 features a high speed PWM architecture, adjustable switching frequency and power MOSFET combination which provides a high efficiency output. The output voltage of the converter is set at 1.2V and the maximum output current is limited to 5A. The output capacitor value should be selected to achieve the desired output voltage ripple and stability. The choice of the output capacitors also depends on the type of application, output current and current transient load requirements.In addition, the TPS62136EVM-698 also comes with other features such as a graphical user interface, on board graphical user interface and Windows based software which allows the user to view and adjust the various parameters of the converter. The device also supports data logging and waveform monitoring which allows the user to determine the operation and stability of the converter. Overall, the TPS62136EVM-698 evaluation board from TI is a useful tool for development and testing of DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS circuits. This EVM allows engineers to model, verify and confirm the operation of various power designs prior to full production which helps in cost and time savings.
