TPS62313YZDT

The TPS62313YZDT is a low quiescent current, adjustable low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator which is a type of DC/DC Switching Regulator. It is a highly efficient buck-boost regulator with 2.5V to 5.5V input voltage range and up to 1A output current capability. It\'s a two-phase PWM regulator with 180° out-of-phase operation and a fixed frequency of 500kHz. It integrates three low-on-resistance N-channel MOSFETs and also has a low power mode with quiescent current of only 230 nA. This LDO regulator offers excellent line and load transient responses, compensates for output voltage tolerance and also provides short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown and overcurrent protection.

This device is designed for low noise and low power applications, primarily for applications such as battery-powered portable equipment, digital cameras and mobile devices. Typical applications include systems with a voltage range of 2.5 volts to 5.5 volts and an output current higher than 800mA.

While this LDO is switch-capable, a low-dropout fixed output voltage regulator can be used in place of the TPS62313YZDT. When used as a fixed output voltage regulator, the device simplifies design, has low quiescent current, provides excellent line and load regulation, and delivers up to 1A output current. It also has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

The device operates by switching an inductor onto the input supply and a capacitor onto the output. As the output voltage changes, the switching frequency and duty cycle adjust accordingly to maintain a constant output voltage, thus delivering high efficiency with good line and load regulation. As the output current increases, so does the switching frequency and the inductor receives higher current, resulting in higher losses and lower efficiency. The device also uses a N-channel MOSFET on the input instead of a P-channel MOSFET to reduce conduction loss.
