TPS62420QDRCRQ1 Application Field and Working Principle The TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 is a high efficiency, dual-channel step-down switching regulator with integrated FETs, which can reduce the solution size and number of external components, and the output current can reach up to 2A. This device is suitable for a wide operating temperature and input voltage range, making it ideal for mobile and portable applications.The TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 is a complete switch mode power converter and has three main functions: power feedback, power control, and energy storage. The peak current mode control design can provide excellent system dynamic response, fast transient response, and minimize the output ripple. The device integrates the FETs, which reduces the solution size and the number of external components. The EN/PWM/SS pin is tied to the GND to enable the device and it also acts as a frequency synchronization input pin. The SYNC/FBDIM pin is tied to the feedback pin, FB, to set the output voltage of VOUT1 to 3.3V.The design goals of the TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 are to provide the highest efficiency for the output voltage regulation, low component count and a solution size reduction, and a wide operating temperature range. The high-bandwidth peak current-mode control design enables fast transient response, minimal output ripple, and excellent dynamic response.The main component of the TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 is an internal low-side N-channel MOSFET, D1, which is applicable for step-down DC/DC switching operations. The upper MOSFET, D2, is an external component which is connected to the VIN pin. The inductor and the output capacitor, COUT, are used to store and provide the current to the output load.The TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 operates by feeding the inductor, L1, with a fast voltage pulse and then turning off the switch. When the pulse is applied, it charges the inductor and, as long as the switch is kept on, the current continues to increase. When the switch is turned off, the inductor current is limited by the load current. The output voltage is then regulated by varying the on-time of the switch and controlling the duration of the pulse width.Finally, the TPS62420-QDRCRQ1 is designed to provide low quiescent current and high efficiency, making it the ideal choice for mobile and portable applications. Furthermore, the device is capable of synchronization with an external PWM signal and also features a 260 mV voltage-mode reference for systems requiring higher step-up converter efficiency and better line regulation.
