The TPS65276VRHHR is a family of integrated DC-to-DC switching regulators optimized for portable power applications. This family of devices combines Voltage Regulation, Linear Regulation, Current Regulation and Power Management functionality into one small package. The TPS65276VRHHR family operates from an input voltage range of 3V to 6.5V and is compatible with a wide range of output voltages from zero up to 5.5V.

The main application fields of the TPS65276VRHHR include high efficiency power supply design, power adapter, USB power delivery, battery powered energy management, and other portable electronics. A typical application example of the TPS65276VRHHR is a 4.2V to 1.8V step-down converter with independent output current limit.

Working Principle of the TPS65276VRHHR

The TPS65276VRHHR uses a switching topology to achieve high power conversion efficiency. The device includes a high-side synchronous buck regulator that delivers current to the input capacitor during the switches on period and to the load during the switches off period. An internal low-on-resistance low-side synchronous switch is also included to deliver current from the input capacitor to the output. The TPS65276VRHHR is controlled by an integrated Charge Pump Converter, which actively regulates the output voltage with a degree of accuracy better than ±1%.

The device features an adjustable Soft-Start that helps prevent voltage overshoot and output capacitive-charging current surges during device start-up, as well as a highly configurable over-current protection and hiccup or latch-off mode to protect the device and the load from current overload.

The TPS65276VRHHR family supports both low-noise Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) and higher efficiency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode. This allows the designer to select the best performance/power consumption balance for their application.

The TPS65276VRHHR features an integrated high-side low-on-resistance low-side synchronous buck regulator. This high-side configuration provides a low total conduction loss, eliminating the need for a large input capacitor or inductor. As a benefit, the output capacitor can be greatly reduced, simplifying the DC-to-DC converter design.

Its integrated power MOSFETs also feature very fast internal body-diode recovery and high frequency turn-off switching capability, allowing high efficiency to be achieved even at very low input and output voltages. In addition, the output current limit circuitry is adjustable over a wide range, making the TPS65276VRHHR family suitable for many ultra-low power LED applications.
