The TPS70102PWP is capable of providing up to 300mA load current at a wide range of operating voltages from 12V down to 1.2V (95% efficiency at 1.2V). It features a high-side control output which allows it to be easily integrated into a wide range of power management architectures. It also includes an enable pin that can be used to enable or disable the output, as well as a foldback output pin which can be used to limit the output voltage. The TPS70102PWP is based on an adaptive on/off control mechanism. This mechanism continuously monitors the output current, adjusts the power on/off switching time, and effectively maintains the output voltage within its specified accuracy range. The TPS70102PWP is designed with a Constant Frequency/Current Mode Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) regulator. This PWM regulator is used to control the voltage output of the regulator. By overlapping the power on/off switching time, voltage regulation is maintained to within the specified accuracy. This overlapping is done through Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) and a peak current mode control (PCM). When the output load is below its set current limit (I_SET), the PFM signal is generated, allowing the regulator to remain in the PFM mode. As the load current increases towards its threshold, the TPS70102PWP will then enter the PWM power saving mode. In this state, the TPS70102PWP utilizes the PCM to overlap the power on/off switching time, so as to maintain the output voltage within the set tolerance.Conclusion
