Working Principle

The Linear Voltage Regulator TPS71615DBVT is a monolithic integrated device. It contains a PMOS transistor connected to a 2.5V reference, a comparator that is used to monitor the output voltage, and a voltage divider which sets the output voltage. The mode pin is used to adjust the voltage output, while the Enable pin is used to turn the device on or off.When the device is enabled, the PMOS transistor pulls the output voltage up to the preset voltage based on the voltage divider. If the output voltage is higher than the preset, the comparator calls for a decrease in the output voltage and the PMOS transistor is turned off, lowering the output voltage to the set point. Conversely, if the voltage is too low, the PMOS will be turned on to pull the output up to the preset voltage.The capability to easily set the output voltage makes the TPS71615DBVT an ideal Low Voltage Regulator for most applications. Its adjustable output voltage, small package size, low voltage dropout and low noise make it a great choice for designs that require precision power supply.
