The TPS76330DBVR is a linear low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulator designed to deliver up to 2A output current over an adjustable output voltage range of 1.275V to 5.1V. This device integrates reverse current protection and thermal shutdown protection to ensure safe operation in extreme conditions. Additionally, the regulator is optimized to ensure Zener-diode-like behavior with very low quiescent current and excellent transient response. A shutdown pin is provided to reduce the quiescent current down to less than 0.2µA with no load. With a maximum dropout of 250mV, the TPS76330DBVR is suitable for applications that must operate in harsh power-supply conditions.

Working Principle:The TPS76330DBVR uses an error amplifier, a voltage reference and integrated NMOS & PMOS transistors to generate an internally regulated output voltage. The error amplifier has an input stage (VIN pin), offset amplifier and a latch. The offset amplifier provides an output voltage that is proportional to the voltage on the VIN pin, with a programmed gain. The error amplifier output is connected to the output voltage latch and the voltage reference. The latched output voltage is compared with the reference voltage, and when the output voltage is higher than the reference, the output NMOS turns on. The PMOS remains in active mode until the output voltage is equal to the reference voltage, and the output current is regulated by controlling the output PMOS. During startup, the PMOS is turned off and the voltage on the VIN pin rises until it is equal to the reference voltage. When this occurs, the PMOS turns on, establishing the output voltage.

The TPS76330DBVR also has a shutdown feature that allows the user to turn off the regulator, reducing the power consumption to less than 0.2µA. The shutdown pin is an input to the error amplifier, setting the error amplifier output voltage to the low rail voltage. This reduces the gate voltage of the PMOS such that the output is shorted to ground.
