Working Principle

The TPS76850QPWPREP is a low dropout voltage regulator IC. It operates using an adjustable, low-impedance, linear regulator based on an internal power MOSFET. This topology provides very low output noise, fast transient response and excellent power supply rejection (PSRR). The device operates from an input voltage range of 2.5V to 12V and can provide an output current up to 1A with a high accuracy voltage regulation, typically 0.3% load and 0.1% line, over temperature and line variations. The device has an adjustable output, allowing it to be adjusted to any voltage between 0.8V to 5V.

The TPS76850QPWPREP has a unique design feature that allows it to accurately regulate an output voltage even if the input voltage is below the output voltage. This is achieved by using a true low dropout architecture that allows the device to drop only 0.15V at 1A of output current and 0.1V at 0.5A of output current.
