The TPS7A4515EVM-385 is an evaluation module (EVM) from Texas Instruments, designed to provide an easy and quick evaluation platform for the TPS7A4515 regulator. This LDO voltage regulator, along with its evaluation board, is specially designed to address the power needs of a wide variety of applications.The TPS7A4515 is a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with a fixed output voltage of 5V. It features a wide input voltage range of 3V to 15V. The regulator features fast transient response time, great line and load regulation performance, low operating current and low dropout voltage. It can provide up to 1.2A of continuous output current, and its low dropout voltage and high efficiency ensure that it can be used with low input voltage sources.The EVM board includes a wide variety of components to support the regulator and bring it up to speed with most applications. The board includes an oscilloscope header with cross point test points located both sides corner, an array of E-kernel components like resistors, capacitors, inductors and schottky diodes to support the regulator and the small size of the board makes it suitable for use in tight fits in comparison to other EVM boards.The board also features an LED indicator as the output of the this regulator. The LED\'s required current can be adjusted; and using the resistor on the output, the current through the LED can be regulated to your desired level.The board can be powered by different sources including a battery or the AC/DC power adapter or even just directly with the power supply. There are varios LED\'s indicator which indicate the various system states and the product are operational. The regulator\'s working principle is based on the input-output voltage difference across the pass-element, the linear voltage regulator. This pass element is unfortunately usually a MOSFET type due to its low power losses in comparison to bipolar type transistors. The input voltage goes through the MOSFET\'s gate, while the output voltage goes to one of its terminals. The other terminal accomplishes its function by connecting to the ground. When the input voltage is applied to the MOSFET\'s gate, it opens, allowing current to flow from the input to the output, creating a voltage drop between the two nodes. This voltage drop is directly proportional to the power dissipation and therefore the regulator\'s overall efficiency. The MOSFET can only open and close to a certain extent, and so once the voltage drop reaches it\'s upper limit the regulator stops regulating and the output voltage will remain fixed at the regulated voltage level. This is why LDOs are usually referred to as linear voltage regulators. The TPS7A4515EVM-385 is a great choice for a wide variety of power needs and the evaluation board allows for an easy evaluation of its capabilities making it the perfect choice for a variety of applications.
