Rotary Switches

A rotary switch is an electrical switch that utilizes an input device to select and activate one or more circuits at an output. The rotational motion of the input device is converted into linear motion of a switch contact. Rotary switches are mostly used in electronics equipment for applications such as adjusting volume and tone.

TS3N Application Field and Working Principle

The TS3N rotary switch is usually used for the connection between several outputs and different numbers of inputs. It can be used in telecommunications, relay switches, remote control systems, automatic doors, etc. Its working principle is that when the switch actuator is turned, the physical movement is symmetrically converted into an electrical signal; after the signal is amplified, the switch is used to connect the corresponding group of contacts. The biggest feature of TS3N is its long life up to hundreds of thousands of operations. It can also be used in AC and DC circuits, with a voltage range of up to 250 volts.

TS3N is composed of a contact element, an actuator and a control arm. The contact element is composed of a fixed contact and a movable contact. The actuator is usually a push switch button or a plastic knob. The control arm is rotated to make the movable contact to the corresponding fixed contact.

The contact element of TS3N has two different types: open contact and closed contact. Open contact is usually used for low frequency circuits, while closed contact is usually used for high frequency circuits. When a closed contact is used, the contact between the two terminals is closed under any position. When an open contact is used, the contact between the two terminals is open when selecting a position.

Due to its simple and reliable structure, long service life, and comprehensive application, TS3N rotary switches are widely used in industrial control, instrumentation, civilian appliance, security control and automotive electronics.
