1. Describe

The TS3USB221EDRCR is a high bandwidth switch designed for switching high-speed USB 2.0 signals in cellular and consumer applications such as cell phones, digital cameras, and laptops with hubs or with limited USB I/O controllers. The switch's wide bandwidth (1 GHz) allows signals to pass with minimal edge and phase distortion. The device multiplexes the differential output from the USB host device to one of two corresponding outputs. The switch is bidirectional, and the high-speed signal at the output has little or no attenuation. The TS3USB221EDRCR is designed for low bit-to-bit skew and high channel-to-channel noise isolation, and is compatible with various standards such as Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (480 Mbps). The TS3USB221E integrates ESD protection cells on all pins, is available in SON packages (3 mm × 3 mm) and tiny μQFN packages (2 mm × 1.5 mm), and has the following characteristics over the free air temperature range: 40°C to 85°C.

6. Function description

The TS3USB221E has a low-power mode that reduces power consumption to 1 μA when the device is not operating use. To put the device into a low-power mode and disable the switch, a logic high signal must be provided to the bus switch enable pin, OE.

7. Application Information

In many USB applications, the USB hub or controller has a limited amount of USB I/O. The TS3USB221E solution can effectively expand limited USB I/O by switching between multiple USB buses to connect them to a single USB hub or controller. The TS3USB221E can also be used to connect a single controller to two USB connectors.
