TSI721-16GCLY is a serializer-deserializer (SerDes) which is operated at a data rate of 16.375 Gbps. It effectively interfaces a 10Gbps Ethernet PHY to an optical module with NRZ data transmission. The device uses high-speed CMOS technology and has advanced features with a goal of providing a desirable level of performance and ease of use, with loopback features, programmable equalization, and multi-level disparity control.

The TSI721-16GCLY is a SerDes with low-power operation, suitable for many high-speed applications. The device consists of two halves: the serializer section and the deserializer section. In transmission mode, the serializer converts 16 parallel data streams into 1 serial output stream of cyphers.

The deserializer does the reverse. It takes in the incoming serial data stream and recovers 16 parallel data streams. The TSI721-16GCLY uses advanced DSP techniques such as digital pre-emphasis, equalization and sophisticated clock and data recovery (CDR) circuits. These techniques enable the device to perform at a data rate of 16.375 Gbps on high-speed links.

The TSI721-16GCLY is optimized to interface with two types of Optical Subsystems, the 10GBASE-LR/LW and the 10GBASE-SR/SW. It implements a loopback structure, which allows customers to test the link under various conditions, such as cable length and bit rates. For improved performance during the loopback, the TSI721-16GCLY provides an adjustable multi-level transmit pre-emphasis, an adjustable transmission de-emphasis and an adjustable equalization to compensate for ISI.

TSI721-16GCLY can be used in a wide range of applications including physical media nodes, bridging between electrical and optical sub systems, transport systems, backplanes, clock and data recovery, broadcast systems and test equipment. It also provides clock and data recovery, as well as de-skewing functions, both on the transmit and receive sides.

The TSI721-16GCLY makes use of several integrated control functions to ensure optimal performance. The device can be programmed from the outside through a control port or over the I2Cbus interface. The device also provides a wide range of programmable parameters such as multi-level pre-emphasis and equalization to improve performance in any application.

The TSI721-16GCLY supports auto negotiation of link parameters such as speed, duplex and flow control protocols.
