TSW2200EVM is an evaluation platform for Texas Instruments (TI) TPS52200EVM SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) controllers. The platform enables quick and easy evaluation of the TPS52200EVM when used in either a synchronous step-down application or a buck-boost application. It is designed to support key features such as adjustable output voltage, programmable soft-start, programmable loops for output voltage or current regulation, and very low standby current. It also features on-board diagnostics, including output voltage and current monitoring, and current-limit protection.
TSW2200EVM can be used to evaluate applications such as point-of-load (POL) converters, motor control applications, DC-to-DC converters, and high-current applications. It is designed to support up to 1.5 A DC output current and connects directly to the power supply through the standard connectors. The working principle of TSW2200EVM depends on the application being used. In both applications, the key components at work are the TPS52200EVM controller, the synchronous MOSFETs, the magnetic components, the EEUFC1515 inductor, and the EEUFC1717 output capacitor. The TPS52200EVM controller provides the gate drive for the MOSFETs, which in turn drive the magnetics, which in turn provide the output voltage regulation, over-current protection, soft-start, and under-voltage protection. The inductor acts as a filter to reduce ripple and noise in the output voltage and also helps in current transfer between the input and output. The output capacitor helps in filtering out high frequency noise.
