Working Principle

This TV04A240JB-G device works on the IFM principle. It makes use of a field-effect triggered, integrated, metal-oxide varistor (MOV) with an integrated thyristor element and a diode. The integrated thyristor actively controls the varistor\'s ability to conduct so that the MOV does not decay during its life.

The MOV is reverse-biased and acts like a resistor. It limits the voltage to a safe level when there is an overvoltage surge on any of the protected applications. When this MOV reaches its breakdown voltage, it switches into conduction state and limits the voltage to a safe level. The integrated thyristor controls the MOV during the surge and even after the surge, it keeps the MOV in reverse bias. The diode accomplishes with the thyristor to amplify the voltage to push current through it and prevent dangerous voltage spikes from damaging the system.
