Thyristors, also known as Silicon Control Rectifiers (SCRs), are three terminal semiconductor devices which allow current to flow in one direction only. They are widely used in control applications like motor speed control, lamp dimming and motor starting. TVB270SA-L Working Principle

TVB270SA-L is a four-layer, two thyristor package which comprises two SCRs connected in inverse parallel configuration. The two SCRs work together to provide high current up to 2.5 kA. The thyristor is triggered at its gate to turn ON, which causes current flow through the SCR. The current through the SCR is rectified by the diode connected in parallel to it, allowing current to flow in one direction. Then the current in the circuit can be adjusted and modulated by varying the gate control signal.

The two SCRs can be triggered independently and simultaneously. This allows one thyristor to start commutation much earlier than the other in order to reduce switch-on losses. This also allows the current to be shut off more quickly by disconnecting both SCRs at the same time.

TVB270SA-L uses integrated snubber circuit for protection against transients, arc and switch-on losses. It also has overvoltage and over temperature protection.
