UC5170CQ Application Field and Working Principle

UC5170CQ is an integrated current-mode driver and MOSFET-receiver. It falls into the Interface - Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers category, and is designed to efficiently drive and receive signals in millisecond timescale. It is almost immune to noise and EMI issues and is suitable for multiple applications.

UC5170CQ employs four P-channel MOSFETs and two N-channel MOSFETs as the driver and receiver. The four P-channel MOSFETs form two NANDs, one at the driver side and the other at the receiver side. The two NANDs implement the AND gate circuit for signal conditioning, which allows for fast and accurate low-voltage signaling. The four P-channel MOSFETs also help in the power efficiency of the interface by blocking the power from being wasted due to leakage. Furthermore, the two N-channel MOSFETs form a latch, which is used to lock the output from oscillating because of noise and EMI.

UC5170CQ is capable of supporting a wide variety of voltage architectures, including TTL, LVCMOS, and even up to 15V. It also features protection circuitry to prevent damage and lockup events, such as over-voltage, short-circuit, and thermal-overload protection, among others. Furthermore, the integrated lockup protection on the UC5170CQ helps protect the receiver and the driver in the case of ESD events or any kind of Single Event Upsets.

To control the driving and receiving signals, the UC5170CQ supports a wide range of control inputs. The driver and receiver can be completely disabled with a single control input. There are also two control pins that can be used to control the output voltage and current levels. The driver is capable of supporting output voltages ranging from 0V to 15V and can be switched between DC and voltage-controlled modes. Furthermore, the receiver is also capable of handling up to 15V input voltages and can be switched between analog and digital modes.

In terms of applications, the UC5170CQ is frequently used in communications systems, telecommunication networks, broadcast services, and wireless infrastructure. It can also be used in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics. For example, it can be used to drive the gate voltages of MOSFETs and IGBTs, and also as an onboard logic gate circuit with voltage-controlled transceivers and receivers. In addition, the UC5170CQ can be used as an integrated current-mode driver to power microprocessors and DSPs.
