The UCC2803QDREP is a monolithic pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller designed for high performance Off-line and DC-to-DC converter applications offering the user the flexibility to tailor the power supply control and performance to the application. This device is ideal for general purpose and telecom applications due to its feature set, wide input voltage range, low start-up current requirements and low operating current.

The UCC2803QDREP has several built-in protections including: cycle-by-cycle current limit, thermal shutdown, input overvoltage lockout, double pulse suppression, frequency jittering, undervoltage shutdown and load disconnect. The device also offers excellent transient response through its unique primary side control which eliminates the need for opto-couplers in the system eliminating costly external components. The UCC2803QDREP also features high efficiency power savings modes, which reduce the operating current significantly in light load conditions.

The device\'s wide input voltage range, low start-up current requirements, excellent transient response and built-in protections make it ideal for these types of applications.

Working Principle

The UCC2803QDREP uses an on-board voltage reference, current sensing and control circuitry to provide precision voltage regulation, current limit and overload protection. The device operates by modulating the on-time of an internal power MOSFET switch, creating a pulse-width modulated signal that is inverted and fed back to the input in order to maintain the output voltage. The current sense signal is also used to provide cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection.

The device\'s operating frequency is determined by the external frequency compensation network and is configured during device set-up. The frequency of the signal is also adjustable from a minimum of 96 KHz up to a maximum of 1.2 MHz. The device also provides input current limit protection, which limits the start-up current from the input source. The device can output up to 5A of peak output current in standard operation.
