The UCC28810D works according to pulse width modulation (PWM) for LED control. The device senses the LED load current using an internal sense resistor. Once the sensed voltage exceeds a control reference, the switches of the output transistors are opened. Once this is done, the LED current decreases to boost the sense voltage back to the control reference, thus the current loop is closed.The output voltage is dynamically adjusted to meet the load current regulation and the selection of the optimal reference voltage can be adjusted. The device also provides programmable over-current protection with selectable current levels to ensure that the outputs remain within the safe range during sudden faults.The UCC28810D also features programmable switching frequency and thermal foldback to reduce power dissipation. This is done by dynamically decreasing the switching frequency while increasing the load current, allowing hot spots to be avoided in thermally-sensitive environments.To guarantee safe operation of the device, the UCC28810D monitors the temperature of the package and reduces the output current when it exceeds the optimal temperature threshold. In addition, the device provides open-drain fault pin which indicates if a fault is detected in the system.Conclusion
