Voltage controlled oscillators, commonly referred to as VCOs, are electronic components which use an input voltage to cause an output voltage to oscillate with respect to a reference voltage. The crystal oscillator generates a frequency reference signal which is used by the current-to-frequency converter to generate a digital sequence of information. This digital information is then sent to the voltage-controlled oscillator where it is used to generate the output frequency. Lastly, the output driver amplifies the output signal and produces a digital output waveform.The control voltage applied to the UMX-1119-D16-G is used to dynamically control the output frequency of the VCO via two distinct methods. The first method is to apply a direct DC bias voltage to the control port of the VCO which directly modulates the output frequency.
