The magnetic element in the circuit breaker is essentially a solenoid-like coil which creates a magnetic field when energized. An internal plunger/magnet assembly is used to detect current flow through the breaker and how much current is flowing through it. When the current flow exceeds the rated current limit, the magnetic field pulls the plunger to trip the breaker.
