The optical encoder works on the principle of optical pick-up. Light is emitted from the LED and is made to fall on the photodetector. The photodetector produces an electrical signal which is processed by the controller. This signal helps to determine the angle of rotation of the motor.The LED emits light through a linear array of tiny holes. The photodetector array captures the light which is in turn converted into electrical signals that represent the position of the motor. The generated position signals are processed and used to control the motor.The optical encoder has been designed to operate with high precision and accuracy. It can measure positions with accuracy upto 0.25°.
