Photodiodes are one of the most popular types of optical sensors used in a variety of applications. The UVG20C is a virtual photoconductor-type photodiode which utilizes a unique structure to provide superior performance in applications such as photometry, trace detection of fluorescence, and sunlight applications, to name a few.
The UVG20C is composed of a photosensitive field effect transistor. The gain is adjustable by changing the gate potential and the pulse risetime can also be adjusted with the gate voltage. The conventional structure of the photodiode consists of a p-type silicon diode with a reverse-biased non-transistorized internal Photo-Adsorpher whose responsivity is determined by the bandgap between conduction and valence bands. However, the structure of the UVG20C has a unique internal photo-adsorpher which converts the incoming optical signal directly into measurable electrical signals. The UVG20C has a dynamic range of more than 500:1 and its quantum efficiency is greater than 60%.
