TVS - Varistors, MOVs are Electronic products designed to protect electrical and electronic equipment from harmful voltage transients. The V12ZT2 is a double row, different size, two port, high voltage surge protection device, suitable for applications in telecommunications, industrial, and military systems. It is aTVS diode designed with bipolar technology for rugged utility in AC/DC systems.
V12ZT2 are designed to reduce the effects of overvoltage transients from puncture, inductive switching, lightning, sustained arcing, AC/DC overvoltage and secondary circuit, and long-term overvoltage on sensitive electronic components. When used in the appropriate circuit configuration, V12ZT2 can protect against high-energy transients and reduce the peak amplitude of the surge.
The working principle of the V12ZT2 is simple: It has two ports, one connected to the main source and one to the device to be protected. The V12ZT2 is designed to divert the transient current away from the sensitive electronic components, to “clamp” the voltage at a predetermined level and to prevent it from reaching the protected device. To achieve this, the V12ZT2 is made up of two precision components – the varistor element and the diodes.
The Varistor element is a non-linear, two-terminal electrolytic device, designed to reduce the feedback current caused by voltage transients in the signal generating circuit. The varistor is connected in series with the main signal path and effectively works as a voltage cushion. When voltage transients occur, the varistor decreases the peak amplitude of the surge and reduces or eliminates the feedback current by limiting the current flow through the varistor.
The diode is a solid-state device that conducts current in only one direction and acts as a rectifier. They are normally placed in parallel with the return path of the current and act to prevent excessive voltage from reaching the protected components.

It has a short response time of <0.5ns and a maximum peak current handling of 10kA. The V12ZT2 offers excellent long term reliability and low power consumption.
