TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) are electrical protection devices designed to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes preventing damage due to electrostatic discharge, line surges, and other electrical transient events, acting as a buffer and preventing these surges from reaching sensitive circuit in the long run. Varistors (Voltage-Dependent Resistors) are one of the most selling and popular form of TVS and they are constructed of a semiconductor material with properties that cause its resistance to change with voltage.

V130LC1PX2855 is a class of Varistor, whose application field and working principle requires understanding of the concept of Varistors and other related type of TVS. V130LC1PX2855 is specifically developed for low capacitance and suitable for ESD, EFT, Surge, and AC/DC crowbar application. Moreover, these voltage dependent resistors featured reliable and excellent suppression of surges ratings beyond 28Vdc.

The working principle of Varistors can be explained using the concept of Avalanche Breakdown, a phenomenon in semiconductors that happens when it is subjected to high voltage, a "zener-like" effect. To be more precise, it is the forward bias effect caused by high electric field that gives rise to this phenomenon, where the electric field used to break the covalent bond of the material. Thus, forming an avalanche of commonly known as large number of charge carriers; electron-hole pair.

This avalanche breakdown is responsible for the decreasing resistance of Varistors as the applied voltage increases. When an external current is applied to the Varistor, the semiconductor material starts conducting current due to avalanche breakdown and thus reduce the initial resistivity of the material drastically. This phenomenon is used in the working of Varistors, as the resistance of the device decreases with the increasing voltage across it, from reverse bias to forward bias, and occurs in opposite direction, as the voltage decreases. As a result, the energy of the unwanted surge is bled away through the TVS device.

V130LC1PX2855 Varistor is designed keeping this process in mind. This device features an excellent combination of ESD/EFT/ Surge protection and lower standby current. Hence it is widely popular and required for AC/DC crowbar applications. It is designed for capacitor and displays capacitance of 7pF typical @ 1.4V and a stand by current of 5nA typical @ 8V. It also features excellent temperature dependent performances, and can withstand wide temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. It\'s maximum working voltage varies from 6.8V to 8V and this device is capable of withstanding currents up to 100A.

To conclude, V130LC1PX2855 Varistor is an excellent semiconductor device designed for low capacitance ESD/EFT/Surge and AC/DC crowbar applications. It has high peak current ratings and extremely low capacitance offering protection to electrical circuits and systems from voltage spikes.
