<div class="TVS"> <h1>Varistors, MOVs</h1> <h2>V14P50P Application Field and Working Principle</h2> <p>V14P50P varistors are commonly used in the circuitry of communication and main circuits, in order to protect those systems from lightning and surge transient voltages. V14P50P varistors are usually of two configurations: one described as “split V14P50P” and the other as “monolithic”. The “split” varistor provides an additional lead that allows the user to insert the lead into the protection circuit breakers. The “monolithic” type offers a one-piece construction that cannot be split apart. Both the split and monolithic configurations have advantages and disadvantages.</p> <p> Varistors are made from metal-oxide films sandwiched between two ceramic plates. They are sensitive to transient voltages and act to protect the system by short-circuiting the voltage spike before it can reach the system. Varistors in general work by impeding the flow of electricity. The V14P50P varistor works on the principle of “thermal decomposition”. When the varistor is exposed to a voltage surge or spike, the voltage causes the overheating of the material in the varistor, and the resulting thermal energy causes the electrons to break free from their original atoms, and form a new material inside the varistor. This chemical reaction shorts out the electrical signal, thus preventing it from reaching the system.</p> <p>The application fields of V14P50P varistors is wide. It can be used in lighting systems, power switching circuits, power distribution systems, automotive and aircraft systems, power surge protection systems, circuit breakers, and other such applications. It is also used in telecommunications, military, and other applications.
