This is known as ‘clamping’. The Avalanche Diode will remain in a conducting state until the transient voltage is removed. During this time, the device will conduct current through its internal resistive path, typically known as holding current.

The V180CH8T’s Avalanche Diode has a fast response time of 5 nanoseconds and can clamp voltages up to 27V. It also features a robust and durable zinc-oxide-based Explosive Power Dissipation (EPD) technology. This unique feature allows it to support higher current handling for better energy suppression.
