Working Principle of V20E17P
MOVs operate based on their multilayer structure or Varistor principle. They consist of alternating layers of different semiconductors (which can be metallic and non-metallic). When a voltage pulse is applied to the terminal, an electric field occurs in these layers. The charge carriers generated by this electric field are accelerated by the electric field, and the surplus energy dissipates in the form of heat.
V20E17P’s unique non-linear characteristic is used to dissipate energy. MOVs do not consume power, but instead release excess energy from electrical transients. When voltage on a line rises, MOVs will reduce the voltage, blocking surge currents.
MOVs are designed with extremely high withstanding voltage range and low leakage current. These features give it excellent surge handling capability with limited impact on noise immunity. It has high surge voltage protection level ranging from 5V up to 275V. This makes it adequate for circuits and equipments.
