The V20E320L4B is a Type 3 Surge Protective Device (SPD) designed for consumer applications. The device is intended for indoor use only and is designed to protect connected equipment from lighting bolt strikes and line transients. The surge protection device is designed to respond to extreme lightning transients in the environment in order to protect equipment from damage due to direct or indirect lightning strikes.
The V20E320L4B belongs to the TVS - Varistors, MOVs family and is designed using Metal oxide Varistors (MOVs) technology. It is a surge protective device which is suitable for AC line-connected products, such as Personal Computers, Display Equipment, Audio Systems and Lighting Systems. The device is designed to limit the surge current at less than 6kA (8/20μs waveform) and provide protection modes of Type 3 and category C for single surge events.
The MOVs technology used in the V20E320L4B is based on a nonlinear resistance characteristic which utilizes a Metallized Zinc Oxide element. It works by distributing the energy along the body of the varistor instead of allowing it to concentrate in one point. This reduces the peak voltage at the SPD and prevents electrical damage to the connected equipment. The metal oxide varistors also include a hand-soldered leadwire that is connected to an internal shield plate in the device to further protect it from high-energy transients.
The V20E320L4B is designed to work in two different modes: normal mode and blocking mode. In normal mode, the device reduces the amplitude and duration of the transient surge current to levels acceptable to the connected equipment. In blocking mode, the device limits the inrush currents and prevents short-circuiting of the device. The device can also protect the circuit from excessive voltages or current values that exceeds the surge protection design specifications.
The V20E320L4B also has an over-voltage protector (OVP) feature which protects the connected equipment from power surges greater than the rated SPD voltage. In the overload value, the OVP will reduce the current flow to the connected equipment and prevent any further damage. Finally, the device is designed with a reverse polarity protection which ensures that the connected equipment is safe even with reverse or wrongly connected SPD parts.
The V20E320L4B is designed for consumer applications and can be used in a variety of different applications. It is suitable for use in equipment such as Personal Computers, Display Equipment, Audio Systems, Lighting Systems and many other electrical/electronic devices.
