TVS - Varistors, MOVsThe V20E320PL2B is an appliance-class overvoltage protection device in the form of a gas discharge tube (GDT). It has two terminals that are designed to carry up to 320 volts. Working principle
V20E320PL2B gas discharge tubes operate on the principle of a spark gap. When a surge in voltage is detected, an electric arc is formed, which interrupts the surge. The gap also serves as a low-impedance path for the dissipated energy.
When the specified voltage value is exceeded, the gap lightning occurs between the two electrodes. This interrupter fire creates an avalanche breakdown, which causes the overvoltage to be quenched. As the voltage of the spark gap decreases, the gap closes back up, allowing current to flow.
When the current flowing through the gap has decreased to a value close to zero, the gap closes again and the current flow stops. In the case of multiple peaks, the GDT remains ready for subsequent discharge events.
